Jean de Saint-Igny va ser encarregat l'any 1632, la decoració de la capella de la Mare de Déu, a Saint-Germain-des-Prés, que havia d'incloure vint-i-nou panells, narrant episodis de la vida de la Mare de Déu. l'artista, sense saber per què, va deixar l'escena mig acabada, i és el pintor Mathieu Le Nain, arran d'un nou contracte signat el 1634, que va posar fi al conjunt. La decoració va ser desmuntada l'any 1790 i els panells dispersos; desconeixem avui d'aquest conjunt que es guarden els quatre plafons al museu Carnavalet.
